Data-Driven R&D for All

The materials industry is being asked to meet increasingly complex performance requirements, shorten development cycles and compete at a global scale. These pressures require a new approach to R&D.

We aim to make materials and product development more data-driven, connected and intelligent. By bringing together researchers, data, AI and experimental systems, we help insight move naturally into action, and the results of that action become knowledge for the next discovery.

MI-6 provides an environment in which organisations can create value from data throughout the R&D process. Alongside our core technologies, we support the accumulation and sharing of knowledge, the development of internal capabilities and the formation of research communities. Together, these elements strengthen the organisation's ability to conduct data-driven R&D.

At MI-6, we work with manufacturers, particularly in the materials and chemical industries, to transform the way research and development is conducted. Digital transformation is often framed as replacing existing tasks with software. Our ambition goes deeper: we want to redesign how R&D teams experiment, accumulate knowledge and make decisions.

There is no established model for achieving this. We therefore value a scientific mindset: observe broadly, form a hypothesis, test it, learn from the result and try again.

MI-6 is a small organisation made up of people with widely different roles and backgrounds. Working well together requires more than agreement. It requires a genuine effort to understand perspectives and assumptions different from our own. Complete understanding may be impossible, but the willingness to understand is the basis of meaningful collaboration.

Our purpose is to amplify the impact of people working in materials research and manufacturing, and to help their work reach society. When researchers are better equipped to create, society itself becomes more capable of innovation.

Our chosen approach is informatics: bringing together AI and data science, chemistry, UX, knowledge management, systems design and the digital control of physical processes. We are building a place where different disciplines and experiences meet, so that we can address questions no single field can solve alone.

We are looking for people who can ask important questions and also reconsider them. People who care more about improving a hypothesis than defending it. People who are willing to work with things that are still incomplete and who enjoy learning through trial and error.
